Stimulus Shmimulus

Today I finally recieved my government stimulus check. That’s right, I got it on July 15th. Why did it take so long you ask? Here’s the governments’ reasoning: Since I did not manage to score a tax refund this year (I owed $52) I got thrown to the end of the list.

What’s worse is that even though I opted to get my stimulus check direct deposited, I got mailed a check which I have to drive to the bank to deposit. Even worse, they mailed me a letter a week ago to let me know that my check was being issued on the 11th and could take as long as August 8th to arrive. That was the first I had heard from the IRS since I filed my taxes back in April. They didn’t even let me know that I wasn’t getting my check when the majority of the country was. I had to Google around to find out what was taking so long.

My question is why ask how I wanted my check if they were just going to mail it anyway, and why take the time and resources to mail a letter letting me know that the check was coming in a few days? Why not just insert my check into that same envelope?
